Many of you have been telling your friends about the Hype Machine and writing about the site on blogs and even in some publications. I really could not ask for more. It warms the heart to know that others find my small project so exciting.
Thank you.
With the new visitors also comes an increase in traffic, which in turn ends up pushing my hosting account over the monthly bandwidth limit. This gets expensive.
The ads are here to make sure you can keep enjoying the Hype Machine. I am sure you like the site much better without them, but at this point, they are a necessary evil. I’d prefer to avoid having them altogether myself.
If you have any ideas or questions, feel free to leave a comment or drop me a line - I would love to hear from you.
UPDATE 8/1/07: We are experimenting more with ad placement, so feedback is always welcome.

I absolutely love this site! I’ve discovered so much new music through it. The Google ads don’t bother me at all - in fact I occassionally click one or two of them just to make sure you get paid!

What’s wrong with the ads? I mean, they are all mostly just for bands and record labels from what I can tell. I don’t see anything wrong with that, big deal.

Again, I don’t mind the ads because of their content. I’d recommend that you just stick with bands & labels for your ad $$. If I start seeing all those “Shoot the tin can and win an x box!” ads…well yeah, that’s annoying.

Thanks for the incredible music discovery tool. After being burned by many a good single on a so-so CD I vowed to never buy another album without being 100% sure I was going to enjoy it. It is your site that allows me to do this and I am forever grateful. Also, the ads don’t bother me in the least. Anybody who cant see why you need them has to open their eyes. Also consider an Amazon link to the album that uses your affiliate number. That way you get a small percentage of the sale. I know it may be a little difficult to set up but it may be worth it in the long run. Keep up the good work.

Yes, ads are annoying to some people…. but almost every big site in the world now displays them… other than selling things, what other ways are there to make money?
On that note, any ideas for a subscription service, perhaps one that complimented the simplicity and ease-of-use of Last.fm?

Man, don’t sweat a few ads. Your site is sick, absolutely sick. I tell everyone I know about it. Keep the bandwidth rolling!
It is my #1 source for the latest in indie, electronic, folk etc. I’d be very sad without it.
Just make sure you don’t let any shitty companies advertise on the Hype Machine…that just wouldn’t be appropriate.
