This is a picture I did not take of a television set in Nyaung U, Myanmar, showing BBC News via satellite on a morning in early December, when the Myanmar government declared their yearly extension of democracy leader Aung Sun Suu Kyi’s house arrest, and how, less than ten seconds after this brief mention of her name, there was a city-wide blackout.
If the Burmese junta can’t control what the television says, they still control the electricity, albeit ten seconds too late.
