We’re always making new stuff, but we frequently forget to tell you about it. Sorry :/ Here’s what we’ve been working on in addition to our site redesign:
Zeitgeist: We’ve meticulously restored all four years of our Zeitgeists (2007-2010). Browse, remind yourself of some great music you may have forgotten, and sign up to be notified when Zeitgeist 2011 launches.
Twitter @s: When you share a track on Twitter, we @ the artists to let them know people are talking about their music. Catch an incorrect Twitter handle? Let us know.
Blog shuffle: One of our members wrote in asking if he could shuffle a blog page, to discover some older tracks he may have missed. Now you can choose “Shuffle” from the drop down menu on every blog listing. Thanks, Dave!
Keyboard shortcuts: A combination of vi/Winamp/arrow shortcuts for navigating the tracks:
Next track: n j b →
Previous track: p k z ←
Play / pause: x, c, spacebar
Stop: v
Heart: l h f
Do you use others? No spacebar for now; too many people use that to scroll.
Bandcamp support: We now pick up Bandcamp track embeds on the blogs in our list.
Tea: Blackcurrant, Earl Grey, peppermint, and lemon ginger have been added to our pantry.
No Green Tea? Hype Machine Fail.

Friendly heads-up, the [songs] button on the 2008 zeitgeist page incorrectly links to http://hypem.com/zeitgeist/2008 and not http://hypem.com/zeitgeist/2008/songs

Still waiting for a better friending/following system!

Where is the searchbox? cant find it anywhere :\

Caffeine-free tea is for the weak!
The 2008 Songs could not be recovered, so that’s actually intentional.

Trying to play any song – says I need to log in to use that feature. Uh, since when? This is a great site but if I want to use it without any features and just listen to some music, why do I need to sign up?
November 16, 2011 12:40 am
If all you want to do is listen to some free stuff, we don’t really want you anyway – there are many better places for that, Grooveshark, etc.
Sign up, and you’ll find some things we do that are excellent.

I should have been more clear. This site does a lot of things well and I love a lot of the features. I guess I was just wondering why this was changed.
Is there really not a place here for those of us who use the site to discover new music, and who enjoy the whole aggregate/community/vox populi dynamic without necessarily wanting to participate in it?
That’s not meant to be whining – I’m genuinely curious.
November 16, 2011 1:55 am
You can still use the site without much participation even with an account, but this way you can stumble into some of the more unique features of what we do. Trust us.
This isn’t Facebook, we don’t require your real name and we don’t sell your data. The things we’ve built make this all more fun.

Thanks for the info. I’m sold. Like I said, you guys run a great site.

Oh, damn! Much appreciated on the Bandcamp support 🙂

Would it be possible to have the search bar stay at the top of page(where it shows prev. song, play/pause, next song buttons)?
November 18, 2011 12:16 am
Go, Team Hype Machine! \o/
November 18, 2011 8:59 am
@Seize, I use Hypem in Chrome and noticed that the Search box got obstructed at certain zoom levels. Try holding Ctrl and rolling your mouse wheel down. Of course, I discovered this after I sent a support request to the team (derp).
For the Hype team, thanks again for the shufflin!

vi keys ftw.
also, would love a way to profile my favourites and be told ‘hey, you should follow THIS blog.’ that’d be neat.
November 23, 2011 8:28 am
Please please please give us a pause button… that’s not too much to ask is it?
November 26, 2011 6:27 am
About the Keyboard shorcuts, about my usage of the site, it would be a real advantage in term of ergonomy to have a shorcut to navigate inside the songs, ex: maintain -> + something – to skip every 5 seconds across the song.
If my request is interesting other users, please give it a thought =)
November 27, 2011 7:31 am
re: touch-friendly site. hover to skip/volume makes for a tedious if not unusable (in the case of volume amplification) touch-based browser. sure, there are apps for the dominant 3 platforms, but that’s not always optimal/possible.
Also, I’m genuinely curious what led to the decision (design? technical?) to move the playbar to the top from the bottom and why the floating search box wasn’t included in that floating nav bar?
November 29, 2011 4:40 pm
this has nothing to do with updates, but that new sidebar guy looks like a douchebag, sort of embarrassing for the site overall.

A play/pause button would be huge. I’ve known the other shortcuts for awhile but PLAY/PAUSE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!
December 7, 2011 2:09 pm
Also, a toggle to dock the drop down bar could fix that touch interface issue. NTM it would be nice to have anyway.
December 7, 2011 2:11 pm
You can pause / resume with x, c and z; and stop fully with v
December 7, 2011 2:13 pm
Blog shuffle isn’t working anymore :\
January 22, 2012 8:19 am
I’m a little confused… V is previous track and play/pause? Also the left/right arrows don’t seem to be working on Chrome. Otherwise I’m loving the keyboard controls!

Do you support the new bandcamp embeds? I posted a couple tracks [here: http://different-kitchen.com/2013/06/see-d-sisive-live-at-sneaky-dees-tonight-for-torontos-nxne-festival/%5D which did not seem to flag on Hypemachine….
