Blip Festival 2008 is coming up December 4-7 in Brooklyn, NY. Self-described as a “four-day event showcasing nearly 40 musicians and visual artists occupying the international low-res cutting edge”, it sounds pretty incredible!
We’re giving away 3 pairs of tickets to the event so you and a friend can rock out to pixel pop all weekend. Simply check out the full list of performing artists on the site, and let us know in the comments who are you most looking forward to seeing and why. Is it their circuit bending skills or the way they use lo-fi electronic synthesis to create polyphonic, rhythm-driven electronic music? Explore the artists fall in love!
We’ll select 3 winners with the best comments on Friday November 28th. Good luck!

I’m looking forward to seeing Bitshifter, just because seeing a guy make music with a GameBoy is freaking amazing!

I really really would love to see lissajou. Not only do they represent my hometown of florida but I have heard awesome things about them live and have always wanted to see them. Their complicated and emotional rave music in the new york city atmosphere is probably like ecstasy!!!

I would love to see Jellica; any British feline that chooses to send a man-puppet to the States deserves my undivided attention!!!!
N.B. four exclamation points proves that I am more excited than any comment above me.

I’d love to see USK perform, because he is so hardcore. Have you seen the vids on YouTube?! Pumping his hands in the air, waving around his DMG (Gameboy) like a weapon of mass destruction. Oh, and his chiptunes are epic. FUCKOOOOOOKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I would like to see Dubmood because they are the best thing since Rick Astley….HA! In all seriousness I would like be a master of karate to their beats, bust 5 moves, and then have an awesome time jamming out. Eat that for thanksgiving.

the bands sound like varying underwater species: mainly of the jellyfish persuasion: slinky, mysterious, bright, bold and perhaps, just perhaps, transcendent.

I am most looking forward to cow’p because I need to experience the BASS in my FACE. Gameboy dubstep, it’s an amazing thing!
Secondly, trash80, because NES electro needs to take the dancefloor by storm, imo.

I would love to go to see Minusbaby, who is a native new yorker, and performs brazilian inspired electronic music. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of brazilian music (thanks to a wonderful music cultures class I’m taking this semester) and have been enjoying everything from more traditional sambas and marchas, to the absurdly kitschy, over the top musicals of Carmen Miranda. The cold has crept up on us here in New York, but listening to the psychedelia of Os Mutantes and imagining I was in a warmer climate has made the weather a bit more bearable. I’m really interested in how Minusbaby takes popular brazilian music, and translates it through lo-fi electronophones. And, if I go to Blip Festival, I will even write my term paper for music cultures about it!

This is a once in a year event that gets my chest sweaty in joy. BlipFestival is bringing not only Starscream, but also their fellow New Yorkers, Anamanaguchi, to the playing field, both of who ive missed several times in the last year due to a hectic work schedule. Starscream is what ive always imagined for my dream’s background music. Im a drifter in the clouds, and some sounds are only so befitting for my kinds. of course, i have my dance moods too, and thats where Anamanaguchi comes in play. Ive already taken off of work for this event cause i simply want to dance the night away like im stuck in space with disco lights. Ive been listening to Ary Warnaar’s tunes for years and im highly impressed. if it was possibly to say he was a shred master on a gameboy, i think that’s what he accomplished. With both these bands, ive gotten the nostalgia of my childhood, without completely butchering the image and giving it a new feel, light, and touch of creativity that hasnt be felt in any other genre. This show will be the perfect way to end mine and everyone elses year and id love to be there for it!
