Thanks again for all your feedback. We’ve been looking at different ways to satisfy your requests while creating the meaningful music discovery experience we have in mind.
Stay tuned.
As usual you are welcome to write with questions and ideas. And if you are a flash expert, we REALLY want to hear from you.
I’m also failing to find the iTunes Podcast link – is this dead too?

Thanks for listening to the feedback. Even though you’d probably implement this anyway, the following functionality would be great:
-Ability to skip around a track
-Ability to ‘favorite’ a blog or track from the player
Also, on multiple computers, I’ve seen issues with Flash where it stops playing when the window is minimized (or, more specifically, when there is no Flash on the screen).
However, your previous player worked remarkably consistently in that minimized/hidden state. I don’t know why that is, but hopefully the new player will, too.
Thanks!

Yes, i have problems when the flash isn’t on the screen too. For example it do not skip to the next track until i take a look at the page when hypem is playing a playlist (blog listing, favourite, etc..).

Thanks in advance for the pop-up player…. now, if you took the “lolcat” pic away (as post default), you’d be doing us bloggers a favor. 😉 (Seriously!)

so…im not as disappointed as i first was about the flash player being gone (i found a few good blogs), but i would love to see it back. however, theres a few things i feel need to be addressed involving the pre-pop-up-flash-player page as well as the flash player
(1) search results per page. its a bit sad to be limited to 30 results per page when in many cases you have to skip through 2/3 of the tracks on the page because theyre duplicates
(2) on that same note, an algorithm to skip duplicate tracks would be nice
(3) fast forwarding through a track is missing now 🙁
(4) more lolcats 🙂
(5) not sure how hard it would be to implement this, but a search where you could enter the names of multiple artists (limited to X fields/tracks to preserve memory) then have the ability to listen to multiple artists simultaneously.
(6) similar to the playlist idea, having the ability to have different lists of favorite tracks would be nice
thanks

DEAR HYPE MACHINE,
After spending a lot of time getting used to the current interface, I think it’s incredibly unfair that you are implementing a flash pop up player. Simply put, you are forgetting about the people who truly supported you from the new beginning. I’m not sure if this pop up player is another way to get more ad revenue, or if it meant to collect more information for the Music Industry database that you merged with in 2006. Why are you selling out? This isn’t fair. It’s just hard for me to get through my work day without listening to Justice Remixes within my browser. Justice improves my spreadsheet-making productivity by 33%.
Why can’t you be like that one blog with that one interface? I am seriously thinking of switching over to that one startup music+social networking community. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before, and has music that is relatively new. They also have a catchy name that is coincidentally an African word for something along the lines of ‘community.’ It will probably end up turning into a verb, like ‘Google’, if all goes well.
The power given to the bloggers right now is at a perfect level. With so many new startup blogs popping up, it’s easier than ever to find the hottest tracks to repost in their own blog in hopes of ‘making it’ into the top 50.
I am seriously considering starting an online petition, especially if the new flash player manages to incorporate the new interface with the best features of the old flashplayer. Perhaps you should contact Newscorp to see if you can get the code for the Myspace Music player. I think it’s fair to say that the myspace player is an interface that we’re all familiar with that works perfectly. While I am no Information Systems guru, I am an avid internet user, making my opinion incredibly relevant to your situation.
I am also looking forward to HypeMachine apps. Right now I am drawing the schematics of a HypeM ‘Top Friends’ App, along with a HypeM ‘cracked iPhone’ app. Other ideas that I’m willing to work on are the HypeM ‘old flashplayer’ app, the HypeM ‘mobile blog submission’ app and the ‘automatic HypeM query for the current song playing at Starbucks ‘ app.
I am HypeM’s SuperFan,
Carles

Thank you!!! This news really made my day…

I have to admit i like the new soul of the site. With or without the flash popup player.
It’s a different (read better) approach to the discover of music.

It would be a fantastic feature if users were able to rate the songs and then list by rating.

Why is it that only 3 songs from a blog post are displayed? This is annoying, I want to see all of them, damnit. For example when palmsout blog posts a bunch of remixes i can’t browse them on the hype machine, because you don’t provide a link to the whole post in hype, only a link to the original post on the weblog. This defeats the purpose of your site. GODDAMIT i’m still really pissed about the huge fucking type. WHY DID I EVER DONATE MONEY TO YOU. Fuuuuck i want old hype baaaack.
October 22, 2007 2:05 pm
not able to play any of the songs i’ve “heart”-ed, which is stinky. =P
October 22, 2007 5:02 pm
btw, i’m getting used to the new interface and it’s not as bad as i initially thought.

Guys, I just had to go 20 pages in to catch up on all today’s tracks. Please, please, give us the option to view more on a page (or take the giant fonts down a bit, so then more could fit on each page).

Testing new player…
October 22, 2007 5:30 pm
ok. so the new flash player is pretty snazzy, it still shows a snipped of the blog post. would it be possible to add a “playlist” queue type thing so you can see whats coming up next? i think it would be fine sans the blog quote since the blog quote would pop up when the song gets played

I just emailed you a response re: mobile hypem. Had I known this was here I would have just left a comment for others to riff off of.
“I don’t know if you have one yet but they are pretty amazing. Twitter, facebook, google, all have full featured or nearly full featured versions mobile. Facebook is particularly cool.
I would want to search, see what is popular, play via flash? or Ajax
or something else… I don’t think the iPhone allows people to
download to user space, but other platforms like PDAs or blackberries
do. Google ipodia for reference, it renders perfectly on the iPhone.
Apple has dev support at apple.com/webapps
I’d be happy to help. I can test, work in php, CSS, HTML
Currently flash doesn’t work but when you click on an mp3 it begins
playing with iPod like controls. I don’t know how you could
incorporate that yet prevent people from using hypem as a blatant p2p
site. Javascript works, Ajax works.”
That’s the relevant snippet
