We are all prepared for our annual trek to Austin for the best conference of the year: South by Southwest. This year is extra special because:
We’re Throwing A Party! on March 18th, open to EVERYONE! The Zeitgeist Radio Shows were such a hit, we’ve decided to move forward with a weekly show that highlights the most popular music on the Hype Machine each week. Get all the deets on the The Hype Machine Radio Show Launch Party page and listen to the very first episode, a preview of the bands playing at our party.
We’re On A Panel! Anthony is speaking on a panel this year called Help! My iPod Thinks I’m Emo all about music recommendation systems, the benefits/drawbacks of social vs mechanical picks and more. Should be a lively debate with The Echonest‘s Paul Lamere.
And of course, for all things SXSW, you should check out my side project: sxsw2009.sched.org/ to create a schedule to export to your iCal/iPhone or just print out! This year we’ve also added the ability to get SXSW show recommendations based on your Hype Machine, Last.FM and Grooveshark profiles.
Come to the Street Carnage show too!
The show goes 2PM Cerebral Ballzy, 3PM Ninjasonik, 4PM Vivian Girls, 5PM Izza Kizza.

1308 East 4th Street
That night VIVA RADIO is having a party you should also go to.

Guys, I’m sure you’re busy at sxsw, but can you please address the scrobbling problem with last.fm? That problem being: for a significant # of users scrobbling with last.fm is broken.
It’s not working for me at all, and the last.fm hype machine group is full of people (http://www.last.fm/group/The+Hype+Machine) who also can’t scrobble. Why? Can this be fixed? Can you guys respond please?

This has been fixed, fyi, just make sure it’s enabled in your prefs

Will one be able to subscribe to the show via iTunes if one lives in America and not the UK?

I’ve been using hype since the summer of 2005. For the first year, the hype machine was the bee’s knees. I say “using” in the broadest sense of the word, for I was on it for many, many hours a day. For some time, I was listening to every song put out by every blog that the hype machine indexed (about 300 songs a day). I absolutely loved hypem.
I have stuck with it throughout its evolution: the major re-design a couple years ago; the unnecessary knobs and dials (spy, radio); the icons of hearts; a front page that lists only 10 songs; an ugly, schizophrenic flash player. I fear now that my threshold for bloated, partially functioning, misguided software has been surpassed. Where is my hype machine of yore? The site where one could stream a blog’s most recent tracks in an mp3 player. The place one could find a simple, unfiltered list of what songs blogs are posting? The hype machine, alas, now qualifies as just that: hype.

OH PLEASE tell me I didn’t miss my chance to RSVP for this!!! I don’t see the event on your site, and the RSVP link appears to be broken. Can you help me, please? I need a plus one. Just moved to Austin, and I know your party will be the best. š
Thank you in advance sweet angels at Hype Machine!
