Welcome to the updated Hype Machine! We’ve been listening to your feedback, and have made improvements to help you discover new music to fall in love with, and new blogs you can trust. Let’s see what’s new:
Grouped duplicates: We know, you don’t want to hear the same track five times on one page. Now the duplicates are collected in a list, accessible via the “Posted by x blogs” link under each track name. It’s an easy way to see the chronology of a track’s spread on the internet, and see how frequently it’s being discussed.
Search shuffle: Hit the shuffle button next to the search bar to be taken to a random search, or, on a track page, hit the shuffle button to be taken to a random track. Try it!
Sorted search: You can now sort your search results by the number of favorites, or the number of times a track has been blogged.
Most blogged artists: Quickly sample a track from each of the most-blogged artists of the week.
Browse by genre: Serendipitous music discovery is a wonderful thing, and our Latest page has always been great for that. But for those not brave enough to plunge into uncharted music (yet), we’ve added some categories to help you on your way. We use last.fm’s user-generated tags for this, and we think they’ll encourage you to click through into something you weren’t looking for.
Blog directory: Finding a great blog is like making a new friend with an awesome record collection. There are a lot of blogs here, so to make this process less daunting, we’ve organized by last.fm tags from their most recent posts. We’ve also added some special house tags, which you can learn about here.
Friend finder: Check to see which of your Twitter contacts also use The Hype Machine, and quickly start following them.
HTML5 support: Yep. Now you can find new music anywhere you bring your iPad.
We’re excited to share these new features with you. Play around, explore the site, and please do let us know if anything is not working correctly.
To all the people at Hype Machine, job well done! I really enjoy the new and improved website and have already been tinkering with the new settings. I look forward to all future enhancements to this already stellar website.

and i’m like yes
December 17, 2010 12:22 am
Looking forward to seeing it. Seems to be broken currently though.
December 17, 2010 12:27 am
I like the update ! The website is a lot cleaner, great job! Only thing I wish you all would add is the ability to make playlists of songs. Regardless, keep up the great work.
December 17, 2010 12:30 am
Thanks for the hard work, gang! Not mentioned above, I may be most excited that the site now works on the iPhone & iPad. Well done!
Jeremy
December 17, 2010 12:33 am
Guess I’ll be “bug testing” all day tomorrow. Can’t wait to see how the new features help me find more music that I <3
December 17, 2010 12:35 am
Nice additions. I will be looking forward to loving more music that you guys host. My hats off to the staff who help this website run everyday.
Season Greetings 🙂

The simpler the better… I really am enjoying the new version of one of my favourite sites…
Congrats!

HATE the grouped duplicates feature – as a writer for a blog listed on hype, half the benefit of being on hype was to be able to keep track of my readers/followers most liked songs. Now that they’re just grouped together from all sorts of blogs that may encompass a different niche, I have no idea how to gauge my followers taste and cater to their likes.
I would appreciate that next to each blog listed that had posted the track would be an addition “like” count specific to that blog.
December 17, 2010 1:01 am
Perhaps I wrote that too quickly – I want to clarify that I do not like the fact that I can no longer go to my blog’s own hype page and see what the most successful tracks were on the behalf of my blog, judged (mostly) by my followers. I hate how all the tracks are listed in terms of how well they’ve done on the whole of Hype, even while looking at my blog hype page, depriving a realm of functionality for me. All I ask is that you reinstate that feature by adding how many “like” counts have come in from those certain blog postings.
December 17, 2010 1:16 am
Nice update, but for some reason my iPad doesn’t auto play the next song. I need to manually go and press the play button
December 17, 2010 1:20 am
Excellent! I like the makeover! I was also waiting for the iPhone app, but now with the HTML5 support, the site works on my 4th generation iPod Touch! I imagine it’ll work on iPads and iPhone 4s as well.
December 17, 2010 1:42 am
Is it just me, or are there some problems in Chrome?
1. The next/prev buttons don’t render, I just see the words “Next” and “Prev”
2. Songs often repeat themselves, they don’t skip to the next track after finishing, they simply loop.
3. I can’t change my profile pic.
Stoked about HTML5 though, and I’m sure these bugs will be ironed out. iOS access is worth some minor glitches!!!!
December 17, 2010 1:43 am
I agree with everything Lise said – I hate hate hate that songs I’ve posted are lumped together with those from other blogs.
A completely useless feature, at least make it optional.
December 17, 2010 3:22 am
please make the playback scrubber persistently visible again. requiring interaction to view it is inconvenient and tedious.
beyond that, it isn’t functioning correctly in chrome. the rollover state disappears when you move the mouse over the rollover layer (the one with the scrubber on it).
the larger controls are an improvement.
December 17, 2010 3:27 am
I’m also a Chrome user and i have problems with the player.
1. the previous button is rendered as ‘prev’ instead of the symbol. the next button is rendered correctly but is pauses/plays a track instead of skipping to the next one.
2. the embedded widgets are not working here, not getting tracks when i display them.
q. how can one see which tags go with a blog?
q. How can a blog update it’s header picture in the site?
will test some more on ipad now. really love the update!
December 17, 2010 3:53 am
Hey, love that you are trying to innovate.
Although i do have a gripe with the new playback controls. Having them be bigger is awesome although having to hover in order to view them is not. I find it tedious having to hover in order to just change the volume and I urge you to change this. Or it could be that I’ve found a new level of laziness where every extra action I have to take is annoying.
This is still my favorite music service online and I use it for hours every day, so thanks for all the work that you have put in to make this a rad service.
December 17, 2010 4:08 am
Front page won’t load for me now.
Just gets hung up forever on “Read b.scorecardresearch.com”
December 17, 2010 4:12 am
how do you follow blogs now? There’s not heart icon popping up anymore.
You are my favourite website! Thank you for existing!!
December 17, 2010 4:29 am
Re: Comment #329658
All pages load fine for me on Chrome browser. Same problem still persists on Firefox, however. Must be something on my end if nobody else is experiencing the same issue.
December 17, 2010 4:38 am
so what’s this “temp. not tracked, 30 allowed max”
December 17, 2010 5:43 am
Stunning work – you guys have outdone yourselves, I’m writing this from my iPad whilst listening to music. Doesn’t get much better 🙂
December 17, 2010 5:50 am
Twitter and Last.fm connection seem broken for me, enabling/disabling, as well as login out did not help.
Otherwise, I love love love the upgrade.
December 17, 2010 7:10 am
Amazing.. especially Ipad feature..
Only problem, I cant seem to login!
December 17, 2010 7:30 am
Hypem won’t even load for me (I’m using IE on Vista).
It shows up for a second, then the page goes blank trying to load something from http://b.scorecardresearch.com/beacon.js but nothing ever comes up.
December 17, 2010 8:00 am
Nice. Work. Guys.
On the iPhone! Amazing.
December 17, 2010 8:30 am
So from the comments I take it you need an iPhone for THM to work properly nowadays?
This update is almost as bad as IMDB’s, but at least on IMDB you can revert your settings to the old design.
December 17, 2010 8:42 am
I can’t pause the song once it’s started..
December 17, 2010 9:03 am
you’ll be troubleshooting this shit for a LOOOOOONG time, fellas
personally i’d do that BEFORE the launch, but that’s just me
December 17, 2010 9:37 am
using Firefox, can’t get anything to load beyond an ATT ad…this is getting pretty frustrating guys…time for other sites, I suppose…
December 17, 2010 9:47 am
Your site playing well on Froyo Dell Streak via the Miren browser. Been waiting months for this, well done everyone!
December 17, 2010 10:17 am
Love what you do – please don’t stop!
December 17, 2010 10:30 am
What the hell is what all this songs going on repeat ? And what was wrong with the old mini-player style, the new one is ugly and bulky. Peace.
December 17, 2010 11:09 am
Great experience when browsing on iPad, but debug console says there are still a few errors with javascript.
December 17, 2010 11:18 am
I can’t even get a single song to play. This is bullshit. First IMDB, then eBay, now Hype Machine.
Why is everyone changing their websites for the worse? Seriously: why? I want specifics.
December 17, 2010 11:33 am
The site wont work. It loads and then i get a white screen!
December 17, 2010 12:27 pm
^ Yeah me too, Santa. It blows!!
December 17, 2010 12:44 pm
Uh-mazing job! Every change you made in this big update is awesome. I will get SO much more use out of hype machine now!
December 17, 2010 12:56 pm
Clear your cache if you have trouble loading the site.
December 17, 2010 1:04 pm
Thanks for finally bringing the html5 support.
No more pandora or rhapsody apps.
December 17, 2010 1:13 pm
Awesome update, really great. The one thing that irks me is that the spacebar – which I normally use for moving down a page – is now assigned to pause/play.
December 17, 2010 1:33 pm
“Clear your cache if you have trouble loading the site.”
That was the first thing I did. The cache has nothing to do with it. The updates being ass has EVERYTHING to do with it.
All these positive comments (obviously made my Hypem staffers) aren’t fooling anybody.
December 17, 2010 2:00 pm
what the fuck is this bullshit!? the page finally loads after about 100 tries and then it wont let me log in!! now the page wont load again. this fucking page is the only thing on the whole website that i can actually see, nothing else loads, just a blank page
December 17, 2010 2:09 pm
Really enjoying the update. The no remix option is amazing for discovering new music.
On a side note, everything works perfect in Chrome, but sadly nothing seems to work in Internet Explorer or Firefox. Doesn’t bother me, but I can imagine the sadness and rage it must be causing.
December 17, 2010 2:14 pm
Hey one problem I’ve noticed while using chrome.
– Whenever I check out my friends favourited songs, I can’t click play, it just links me to the latest songs page
December 17, 2010 2:15 pm
i really hope you dicks read these comments and fix this shit because the contact page wont load (of course)
December 17, 2010 2:17 pm
Excellent job hypem team. Huge improvements, html5 makes for an incredible new usage experience. Soooo glad to see the new work live.
December 17, 2010 2:26 pm
best news of the day. tags = game changer
December 17, 2010 2:40 pm
The best music website just got even better!! Very good job!
…was hoping for an iPhone app announcement… coming soon? 🙂
December 17, 2010 3:00 pm
As much as the new tag system opens things up, I still think there needs to be an alphabetical listing of blogs or at least a way to sort the tags alphabetically.
Obviously, great work on the relaunch. Stellar job!
December 17, 2010 3:05 pm
Wow people need to chill out before they complain. I like the design, but some things don’t work (using Chrome) like:
the read post button from the playback bar at the bottom
seeing which friends hearted which songs without having to click their individual names
using spacebar to pause still moves the page down as well. but HUGE thumbs up for adding a keyboard control, now please let me forward/previous with the arrow keys!
as a reader, i’d also like to be able to tell which blogs posted what, without having to investigate. that’s how i tell which blogs i want to read
December 17, 2010 3:08 pm
Awesome, HTML5 means it also works on iPhone.
The only issue is that the audio player doesn’t automatically switch to the next track when the song is over.
Please fix this, I have been waiting for literally for over a year for HTML5 support and now that its finally here please don’t drop the ball, should be easy to fix.
December 17, 2010 3:10 pm
Is there a way to pick multiple tag categories? The tags seem to lead to random music, not really what you’re looking for.
December 17, 2010 3:12 pm
Chrome update:
Clearing cache seems to have taken care of the PREV/NEXT buttons not showing up.
Will report back later on the other issues.
December 17, 2010 3:16 pm
hey guys, huge fan of the hype machine here.
when i load either the main or popular pages now (in Firefox latest), the green & black header flashes for a sec, then “Loading…” appears, then the page goes completely white.
Internet Explorer loads the main page fine, but when i try to play a track, the screen goes white as well. =(
December 17, 2010 3:24 pm
One more request: negative search keywords
I would love to be able to search for phrases like “nicolas jaar -remix”
Thanks!
December 17, 2010 3:30 pm
Could we have a preference to always show the playtime and scrubber, instead of just on mouseover. The space that it pops up into isnt being used by anything, so why not just have it there all the time?
December 17, 2010 3:55 pm
very very buggy, not liking this change at all.
I don’t usually critique but there are some major design flaws on my favourite website.
layout for the player is bulky and obtrusive, new font is not welcome one bit, layout for the tracks is pretty garbage too. please tighten everything up get rid of all this blank space and make it flow nicer.
I enjoy the idea of grouped tracks (though not very well implemented), but the blogs posting could get buried when a new track comes out and all the blogs are posting it up, perhaps the first blog to post gets priority (+ mention)?. and isn’t the heart and the play button in reversed order? also I think the idea of “hearts” was super simplistic and original and that should’ve been a major focus in the update rather than removing them from beside artist names and blogs. but it seems it may just not yet be implemented or a bug. nevertheless if an update this huge is not ready to go online then why is it? naming the following or whatever it used to be called to subscriptions is kinda lame, i’d say go with the tried and true fundamental “hearts” idea.
some things to focus on and ideas;
-doubling the searches cap.
-a community homepage highlighting blogs, artists, posts, with a poll on the side for the top charts, list of albums being released updates from the hypem team, contests for merch, collaborating witih blogs and artists on contests
-managing followers perhaps?
-better show/tour/concert notifier, current one is pretty weak
-bring back spy!
props of being my favourite site, spreading the love of music, and all the well deserved successful thus far. keep it up!
December 17, 2010 4:00 pm
sorry for the typos, grammar, sentence structure.
if you’d like me to clarify anything or go into detail I’d be happy to.
December 17, 2010 4:04 pm
For those having problems using the website with internet explorer I managed to get the site working again by deleting the temporary internet files through the internet options and deleting the separately stored flash settings. To delete the stored flash settings google “macromedia settings,” click on the corresponding link to macromedia and delete settings stored by hypemachine. I’m not sure if you need to do the last bit to get it working but definitely delete the temporary internet files. Hope this helps.
December 17, 2010 4:30 pm
“the blogs posting could get buried when a new track comes out and all the blogs are posting it up, perhaps the first blog to post gets priority (+ mention)?”
yes this is definitely a HUGE problem! i cant see why anyone thought this was a good idea, its hurting each individual blogger.
“We know, you don’t want to hear the same track five times on one page”
oh yeah? how the fuck do you know that? at least give us that option so that every blog that posts a song is individually listed like before
December 17, 2010 4:49 pm
Songs still repeating in Chrome.
December 17, 2010 4:55 pm
Anyone know where has the SPY feature has gone?
December 17, 2010 5:04 pm
Great updates! The bottom music bar is displaying incorrectly in Chrome (the next and previous buttons are rendering as text and misaligned) and there’s no play button. See here: http://d.pr/Lc1m
December 17, 2010 6:27 pm
Thank you for moving to html5. I’m in hypem+iphone heaven.
December 17, 2010 7:05 pm
I’m ok with the new stuff, but I don’t see the point of some of the changes. The hover-over player is annoying and inconvenient. Also, I clicked something, and the player disappears? I guess some people have a problem with it in Chrome but I’m also having the issue in Firefox. Also I miss the little hearts next to blogs so that you could follow them! How do you do it now? And the layout is a little, ehh. It seems like a step backwards? I don’t know, but I thought it looked fine before.
December 17, 2010 7:43 pm
One question: WHY??
Why did Hype M have to change? Songs wont even play on my browser.
Good new ideas, but simple efficiency should never be traded off for ‘cool’ and ‘original’ features that are ultimately redundant if the site can’t even function the simple primary tasks.
December 17, 2010 8:37 pm
Wow, I am amazed at how much flame some people can throw to the developpers who are trying to upgrade a free and fun service…
Most changes seem good, I like grouped tracks feature, it clears away the most popular stuff everyone and their mother posts and reposts and allows to browse more rapidly to new or more obscure music. It’s also amazing to see who posted the same tracks as you, very useful in finding friends/measuring how original you are.
The tags seem a great idea, where are they however? When I go on a blog page (mine or another) there aren’t any to be found nowhere, even when I pick one from the directory. Also no tags for any song? They have to be kind of visible to be useful…
No problems whatsoever in Chrome here, keep up the good work!
December 17, 2010 11:54 pm
The RSS feed does not work anymore. How can I follow the feed?
December 18, 2010 10:54 am
I miss spy. Please bring it back
December 18, 2010 11:35 am
Why am I seeing the same songs over and over again on every page? What is the point of this?
December 18, 2010 12:50 pm
I really dislike this. Can I change it back to just have a chronological list of what has been posted by each individual blog? That is all I want. I don’t care if a track has been posted by 36 different blogs and I don’t want to see the same things over and over again on every page.
December 18, 2010 12:53 pm
Okay, looks like it was just a glitch that put me on to popular rather than latest. Thank god for that.
December 18, 2010 1:01 pm
Loving the update! Hype Machine is my favorite site on the web!
Just one thing – the volume bar is a little funky now…if you try and click and drag, it doesn’t work. You have to click where you want the level to jump to. I liked the old way with the little handle that you dragged. That’s all. Everything else is awesome!
Also, I’d suggest to anyone having problems that they clear their cache. I’m running Firefox and the new page would refuse to load until I cleared my cache.
December 18, 2010 3:04 pm
Please, bring back a “Spy”!
December 18, 2010 5:34 pm
Really nice update! At last my favourite music site works on my iPhone.
I’ve noticed a few issues, and things that don’t seem right, however.
– The biggest bug by far is with the player. I started playing a song, and then paused it. I clicked play on a different song, but it started playing the previous song from where I paused it, and only a page refresh dealt with it. This happens all of the time, anyone else having this problem? I’m running the latest version of Safari on a Mac.
– I agree with Evan, the way the volume slider and scrubber for the songs works is a bit weird, you expect to be able to drag them.
– When I click on Latest, I don’t want to be taken to ‘My Subscriptions’ by default, I’d rather it went to the view of all posts.
– When using the website on an iPhone, the player doesn’t come up on the bottom. I don’t know if this is intentional or not, but it would definitely be better if it was there.
Anyway, I sound like I’m whinging a lot here, but I really do love the update! It’ll just be even better when all of the kinks have been ironed out.
December 18, 2010 6:10 pm
Ah wait. Never mind, that play/pause thing I just posted about seems to have sorted itself out. Might want to look into it anyway though.
December 18, 2010 6:15 pm
Had to find the blog to tell someone up at Hypem that I love the changes. Especially the filter for no remixes!
Great job amigos. Multiple thumbs up ~
December 18, 2010 9:48 pm
Buggy buggy buggy, lost spy feature and html 5 is not working with android 2.2 which it was fine with flash and html 5 should work as well.
emailed hypemachine to use their API to make an android market app but never heard from anyone.
needs lots of work till hypem will be what it used to be.
December 18, 2010 10:31 pm
Thanks for all the bug reports, keep them coming!
We’ve fixed many of the issues above and the rest will be corrected. (like scrobbling, which is currently out of service)
If something not listed here is broken, please write to us using the contact form: http://hypem.com/contact, that way the right people will read your message, guaranteed.
December 18, 2010 10:43 pm
Contact forms confuse me. I wouldn’t know which section to put this in.
1. It’s reagregating the same Mp3’s over and over. Mainly due to edits being made on posts (although, if you stream/download it also counts it as two!!)
2. The way tracks are currently listed (I like being able to see who shares similar tastes btw) by the most recent post of the track is only going to cause dramas. A reverse of the “post first” disease?
December 19, 2010 2:22 am
Is there any way I can just see a chronological list of what songs have been posted by what blogs, like before? I’ve just been from page 1-12 and keep seeing the same songs over and over again. I genuinely do not see the point of this.
December 19, 2010 5:20 am
I do like the idea of grouped tracks – and it seems to me the best (and most user-friendly) way to get people to the track they’re after. But when it comes to individual blogs getting recognition for posting a track it seems that only the freshest post gets the acclaim.
I agree with @tiger’s approach, “perhaps the first blog to post gets priority (+ mention)?”
Other than that, keep up the excellent work.
December 19, 2010 5:52 am
I would like the play time and volume control visible without mouseover, please.
December 19, 2010 10:26 am
This -> I would like the play time and volume control visible without mouseover, please.
Also, songs are repeating in Chrome, I’m going crazy!
December 19, 2010 12:09 pm
I’m usually the first to whinge when my favourite websites have a redesign (most of us hate change) but I like what you’ve done here. Haven’t experienced any of the bugs other people are reporting either but perhaps I’m just lucky… Anyway just wanted to say I like it, looks clean and crisp and I love the grouped duplications. If you come here as a listener rather than a blogger it can only be a good thing surely?
December 19, 2010 1:48 pm
A fan of the slightly sleeker look. Some good updates. However, I am not a fan of the new player – at ALL. Very clunky. Much preferred the older, smaller player. Additionally, with the new update, the Firefox “Save File” plug-in no longer works with the player.
December 19, 2010 5:47 pm
Spy is missing. My Listening History and Obsessions are also missing. My entire listening history is gone and I’ve been on here since the beginning so I had a lot of songs I loved to go back and listen to on a daily basis. Trying to remember them all will not happen. Honestly, this is not a good upgrade- it is a downgrade.
December 19, 2010 6:24 pm
I agree with the person who said it would be nice to keep the old alphabetical listing of blogs in addition to the new format. Great work otherwise though.
December 19, 2010 6:39 pm
i dont like this at all.
December 19, 2010 9:27 pm
I agree with the sentiment of Lise above. The grouping of the tracks detracts A LOT from the ability to gage what my readers are into. Showing a breakdown of the <3's under the "Posted by X blogs" section would fix this for me.
The grouping has also seemed to have made the "Popular" pages almost static. How long has that Ellie Goulding/Blackmill track been at the top? Seems like a long time!
Also, please bring back the Spy feature! I loved it!
Good work on improving the speed of the site… the new page load times are impressive!
December 20, 2010 1:10 am
We are revising the popular page, stay tuned 🙂
Spy feature is back: http://hypem.com/spy or if you click “Spy on site activity” in the sidebar of the front page
December 20, 2010 1:13 am
The site already seems a lot less buggy than it did the other day, congrats!
Noticed a couple more things, though.
-The volume bar in the player doesn’t save your volume preference, which is kinda annoying.
-Using the back button makes the music stop, I’m sure it didn’t used to do that? Anyway, if that’s just because of limitations with HTML5, I can deal with it.
December 20, 2010 6:00 am
So, there are a lot of very nice improvements here, but I can’t figure out how to search for a specific blog. Sure, it’s nice to find new blogs via the tags, but how do I find just THAT blog I want to follow?
December 20, 2010 1:45 pm
downgrade, just like at last.fm…
December 20, 2010 2:12 pm
Can someone PLEASE explain to me why I’m having this problem because I seem to be the only one mentioning it and it’s really frustrating. I’m looking at “Latest Songs” and I’ve just gone from page 1-19 and I keep seeing the same songs posted by the same blogs in the same posts OVER AND OVER again. It’s like travelling through a cartoon background and it’s really annoying. Whereas before I would basically get a chronological list of individual posts and the various tracks in that post, I now seem to get endless repetition of the same posts. It’s a real slog to find the new stuff in amongst things that seem to have been on the first few pages for the past three or four days. I don’t know whether this is something that is wrong at my end or if it’s just the way that hype machine is now. Anyone??
December 20, 2010 2:46 pm
I’m a long time follower of THEM. The new look is great: simple, pure, aity…
Thanks to HTML5, THM is also a lot more responsive.
One thing that bothers me though is that it has become much harder to keep track of the chronology of postings. On a given page, we may get a posting 12 hours old, followed by one 3 hours old, then one from two days ago, etc. Another consequence is that the same posting may appear on page 2, 7, 17, 23, etc., making it harder to find new stuff among repetitions of stuff we have already seen. Could it be a side effect of the new Grouped duplicates feature, that brings a posting to the forefront every time a track is reposted somewhere else?
December 20, 2010 2:52 pm
The play button on spy seems to break once it starts scrolling.
December 20, 2010 5:00 pm
I love the hype machine – you guys have introduced me to so much fantastic music, I’ve got nothing but love for you. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all the hard work and for this amazing, free product.
December 20, 2010 6:00 pm
One question – will there be multi-page shuffling? Currently it looks like it only shuffles one page of songs (in Chrome).
Thanks.

Aghh I’m sorry to be the douche that only spurts out negativity, but seriously Hypem Team, just change everything back. The site is so much less enjoyable with all these new quirks and bugs to deal with. Changes aren’t necessarily improvements. I know you’re trying, but you guys don’t seem like you’ve got a good hold on what users actually WANT to change. I will forever love the site, I’m just not liking it right now…
December 21, 2010 1:38 am
Hate the term “my subscriptions”, majorly.
The only thing I wouldn’t change back is the grouping of blogs posting the same track.
December 21, 2010 2:49 am
* overreaction on changing everything, more of a compromise there between the old and new would be better in my opinion. but the term “my subscriptions” sucks.
December 21, 2010 2:54 am
Player is not working with android 2.2(FROYO), using Default Browser Dolphin, Skyfire…
December 21, 2010 7:58 am
Whenever I click on the Play button it just takes me to the “My Subscriptions” page. I’ve been a loyal user for years and now I can’t play a single god damn song?! How the heck do you play music on this thing now!!!
December 21, 2010 12:23 pm
OK so it works on Internet Explorer but not with Firefox?! WTF?!
December 21, 2010 12:26 pm
and IE has no volume control?! What is going on?! We need more communication from HYPEM. Is this a bug? Is this normal? Are you working on a fix?
This update is rubbish.
December 21, 2010 12:31 pm
When I try to click latest it always defaults to my subscriptions page . It seems impossible to access the LATEST page …. annoying
December 21, 2010 1:35 pm
Alright well I just updated to Firefox 3.6.13 and it seems like we are back in business! Sorry for the rant earlier.
December 21, 2010 3:28 pm
What happened to the RSS feed? Are you planning to restore it? Please advise. Thanks and Happy Holidays.
December 21, 2010 5:33 pm
In Safari 5.0.2, Chrome 10.0.612, and Firefox 4b7 music won’t play. I get the error “soundManager.createSound(): Audio support is not available.” (static-ak.hypem.net/js/soundmanager2.js:1885). Works fine in Opera 11. This is on Snow Leopard.
On the iPad I can make it play music but it stops after a single song.
HTH
December 21, 2010 5:59 pm
Having second thoughts about the collective hearts for a track.. Popular page is pretty much stuck right now and it’s harder for new tracks to be discovered. Just thousands more likes for tracks most people already know, right?
December 21, 2010 6:29 pm
We are fixing the popular page right now, so this will be corrected. Of course we want new stuff to be discovered, so don’t worry; working on that now.
ALSO: Scrobbling is back!
December 21, 2010 6:35 pm
Like the look of the new site, and the new filtering features.
Not sure if this is the correction you mentioned above but but don’t like how the popular list aggregates blogs even more. Its good in theory, but the same songs have been atop the popular list for the over 3 days now and its tougher to find new music.
In Opera, can’t play a song on one page then move on to a different page without interrupting song. Not sure if this is something on your end, but used to work fine.
Also, is there a way use Hype Machine on Android? (Stuck with 2.1 for now).
Thanks guys! Keep up the good work!
December 21, 2010 7:50 pm
Try to clear your Opera browser cache – it should start working
December 21, 2010 7:54 pm
Ever since the updates I can’t play my music!! I can navigate around the site just fine but when I click play nothing happens. The Radio Show is all I can listen to. I am using Safari on a Mac and have already tried clearing my cache. PLEASE HELP!! I can’t do without my Hype Machine!!!
December 21, 2010 11:30 pm
The new layout looks very clean, but I only have one problem. The volume is a little difficult to adjust compared to the old layout you guys have. Was wondering if there is a better way to control just how much the volume increases and decreases?
December 22, 2010 6:50 am
hey guys! AWESOME JOB! absolutely nailed it! i LOVE it! was so afraid hypem would get worse. cant life without it anymore!
December 22, 2010 1:11 pm
thanks for answering, looking foward to the update 🙂
December 22, 2010 2:45 pm
Anthony, any idea why songs are repeating in Chrome? Am I the only one with this problem?
December 22, 2010 4:25 pm
While I am by no means aiming to bitch I am having some issues with HM. I love this site, I love the service it provides to those willing to seek out great music, and I am feel pretty damn honored to be a part of it.
That said, @Stephen, I’m having the same issue. Hypem didn’t update all morning (though it did go through and pull my post and MP3s for posting here) and when it did finally update it was sort of a massive update all at once. The first few pages of the latest are fine but then the next few pages are exactly the same, as if they’ve been replicated.
Further, my post from this morning shows up when you look at my blog’s page but I can find it no where in the latest listings, and I’ve checked all the way back through page 17. This happened the other day as well, right after the initial roll out of the new site.
My goal is to get the music that I love and cherish out to those that wish to find it, but I’m wondering if maybe I shouldn’t take a little hiatus until all the kinks are worked out? While I’ll always continue to talk about the jams I love I certainly want to use Hypem for all it’s worth when it comes to getting this great stuff out and right now that’s proving complicated…
December 22, 2010 5:00 pm
The previous two posts represent the same problem I’ve been having. It seemed to go away yesterday but appears to have come back again (though to a lesser extent) today. Haven’t seen this proble addressed at all in the thread yet.
December 22, 2010 5:07 pm
Hey,
Lots of nice new features…
but I’m wondering if we could have the full blog list available somewhere on the site? Am sure it’s a pain to have to keep the thing up to date, but it would be nice to have on hand.
The “something different” tag is very much appreciated. (My blog certainly falls into that category…)
December 23, 2010 12:52 am
Hi,
Are you sure scrobbling is back? still doesn’t work for me.
December 23, 2010 3:24 am
Please bring back the RSS feed for the latest entries. This function is absolutely essential for me to use Hype Machine. I do not want to have to login, add new artists or genres every day just to quickly scroll through the latest additions.
December 23, 2010 5:11 pm
Chrome still repeats songs, over and over and over and over and over and over.
December 23, 2010 5:16 pm
Yeah, I’m with those who are really not loving the new Grouped Duplicates. I’ve been here since the non-standard days; every site update seems up the design quotient and strip away more information. I can look at cool design in lots of places, but only the Hype Machine gave me all of the cool stats on my blog. Now it gives me nothing.
December 23, 2010 8:55 pm
Still having the same issue I mentioned above though now, it’s not picking up ALL the tracks I post. Debug says that everything is fine but Hypem only picked up one track from today and as has been the case the past few days, those tracks didn’t make it into the latest listings…
December 24, 2010 12:30 pm
html5 support? you gotta be kidding me! i LOVE it! hypem on the iphone :)))) thanks!!!! i would point the html5 support out on the homepage. i guess lots of people dont recognize even though they really would love to listen to the hypemachine on their iphone.
December 26, 2010 5:02 am
Great work guys! hypem on ipad, i just came!
its still a bit buggy/slow but its a start! great work!
December 26, 2010 6:53 am
pleas make the play time control bar persistent again. i like to skim trough the songs and now it just got awkward to discover new songs!
December 26, 2010 5:18 pm
Love the look but do NOT love the hover to show scrubber and volume.
Also, what is the reason for hiding the numbers of people who have <3 each track? Are you hoping to keep that information to yourselves in future?
Finally, if you can't fix the algorithm for grouping <3's can you remove it for the Popular page. It's stuck in the mud and I don't want that mud to stick! 😉
December 27, 2010 10:01 pm
This site looks like what i have been looking for peace and love
December 27, 2010 10:02 pm
Bring RSS feeds for Popular and Latest back.
Hypem is useless without the feeds.
December 28, 2010 1:48 am
Love the new site and the fact that it works on my iphone. Just one thing, the songs don’t play continuously. Is there anything I can do on my end to fix this ?
December 28, 2010 11:04 am
ever since the makeover it has not been working on my mac/safari, but it works well with the iphone, which is kind of ridiculous. any chance of resolving the safari issue, or is there anything I need to do on my end (clearing the cache has not fixed it)?
December 28, 2010 1:02 pm
I could write my thoughts about the new format here but instead I wrote a post about it on my blog. Check it out: http://bridgingtheverse.com/2010/12/27/the-new-format-of-the-hype-machine-yay-or-nay/
December 28, 2010 4:46 pm
Great update!!! With iPhone/iPad support you guys have the best music service on the internet. Hands down. It also finally makes me be able to get off my desktop all the time.
Only thing that’s holding everything back is if it autoplayed the next song on iPhone/iPad.
Am sure a fix is coming soon but am super pumped. Thank you so much for your continued awesomeness!
December 29, 2010 4:36 pm
Now songs don’t load 80% of the time. Frustrating like hell!
I’m on Firefox.
December 30, 2010 8:40 pm
Agreed that without RSS a huge aspect of the site’s usability is hobbled.
December 31, 2010 1:17 am
Common guys, bring back the RSS feed and make this a lovely new start into the new year.
December 31, 2010 7:24 am
I agree that the loss of the RSS feed has seriously hindered my use of Hype Machine. Also, the loss of the “popular: last week” page is particularly troubling. I can’t look at the site every day and this was a nice way to digest the past week’s music.
January 1, 2011 9:12 pm
Looks like you’re censoring unfavorable comments–what are your guidelines for publishing? Do they all need to be complementary to you?
January 2, 2011 10:55 pm
Also waiting for the RSS feeds to come back online. Any idea when that will be?
January 3, 2011 4:46 am
I concur with what others have said about the RSS feeds, they’re essential for me to use Hype Machine. It seems silly to take them away.
Other than that, I’m really enjoying the site.
January 3, 2011 6:21 pm
why does the link to a different song appear when i paste tracks to share using the hypem url on facebook?
January 4, 2011 6:51 pm
The main problems for me are that there is now just too much stuff in general (you have to wade through pages and pages to keep up) and too much of it recurs on numerous pages. I have no idea why this is, but where it used to take me until about page 15 to have seen all the new stuff posted in 24 hours I now have to plow on to about page 45. Pretty frustrating.
January 6, 2011 2:35 pm
Update: I managed to get Hypem working again for me in Chrome… by disabling FlashBlock!
January 9, 2011 6:58 pm
Thanks for all the hard work!
I was wondering if the feature to post music on people’s facebook walls could be put back. I can ‘like’ the song but there are some songs I want to post on people’s walls by just putting @(person name).I have to copy the link and then go on facebook which is annoying.
It’s also easier to spread the word about Hype if I can post it on people’s walls 🙂
Thanks!
January 10, 2011 12:52 pm
Really, thanks for all that you do, but could we please have that breakdown-of-the-heart-distribution-by-each-blog thing? I’m still missing that aspect greatly.
January 13, 2011 6:54 pm
Lise – we are looking at a way of showing more information here, but the breakdown stops making sense on certain pages on the site, like the search page.
Previously, people would just favorite whatever happens to be more recent, now all those actions are rolled into one. We are working on showing what happens to a track during its lifetime though and how it’s affected by a given blog writing about it.
January 14, 2011 8:03 pm
If it’s not too much trouble…would you mind adding support for Internet Explorer 9’s Taskbar Pinning feature and make little media controls in the pop-up window, please?
I’ve just learned about The Hype Machine less than a week ago, pinned the site to my taskbar and use it everyday like an application on my Windows desktop through IE9.
Love the site,
ProjectVerb
January 15, 2011 2:26 am
Weeks after the relaunch I am still seeing the same songs over and over again on page after page. I’m beginning to wonder if this site will ever work for me again.
January 16, 2011 11:22 am
Are the RSS feeds for Latest and Popular Track coming back!?!?
January 17, 2011 7:08 am
What a wonderful surprise today to see the ‘share’ button right next to my ‘like’ button. I may be in love with you guys 😀
Thank you!
January 18, 2011 12:53 pm
Could you please give us some info on the RSS feeds for Popular Tracks?
January 20, 2011 5:16 am
Its great to see the site improving. And the Html5 for ipads and iPhones is very considerate. Can something be done to have the site play music properly on the windows phone 7?
January 22, 2011 3:01 am
thx 4 d update…. like wad u guys did… keep it up
January 22, 2011 5:15 am
Wanted to tell you for weeks: I like the new Hype Machine!
January 23, 2011 12:20 pm
Looking great ladies and gentleman. Keep on livin’ the dream.
January 23, 2011 3:15 pm
LOVE the new shuffle button on my favorites list. You guys seem to be making a lot of positive moves toward enhanced usability – I like 🙂
The Hype Machine rocks!!
January 24, 2011 7:19 am
Yay! The popular songs RSS feed is back! Thanks! And thanks for keeping us posted..
January 24, 2011 8:55 am
Is anyone else having the same problem I’m having where the same songs are showing up again and again on page after page?
January 25, 2011 2:30 pm
Neil- in what section? I don’t have that issue but since the new default homepage is “my subscriptions” instead of “all blogs” I could see getting the same songs repeatedly if you are only subscribing to one or two artists.
January 25, 2011 3:10 pm
Thanks for bringing the RSS feed back!
January 28, 2011 4:02 pm
Same problem as Jonas. Running Safari 5.0.3 on OSX 10.6.6.
In the error console :
“static-ak.hypem.net/js/soundmanager2.js:1885 soundManager.createSound(): Audio support is not available.”
It works only if I click on the play button while the page is “loading”. If I wait like 30 sec once the page has loaded, it doesn’t work anymore. That’s too bad.
January 30, 2011 7:39 am
Hey guys,
Really like the new site look and categorization methods. However, I have recently been running into the problem of my profile abruptly stopping and switching songs. Also, the songs load much differently than before….hard too explain…its wacky though. I was wondering if any users were also running into this problem.
