A few neat updates to the pop-up flash player on the Hype Machine. This version is based on wonderful work with the XSPF player by Lacy Morrow.
Now you can:
– Pause
– Seek within a track
– Shuffle
– Repeat the same track over and over
– Go to the relevant iTunes page for each song, if iTunes carries the artist.
In other words, it’s actually useful now. π
Very excellent. A few things I’m curious about:
What are the functional differences between your version and Lacy’s at this point? What features does your version have that others don’t?
How come you’re working off a different code base rather than the same one? Why be a fork?

The major differences in my version, are:
– UI (buttons)
– Ability to display Amazon/iTunes purchase links via data provided in the playlist
– Disabled the automatic Amazon image-lookup feature, which is very cool but is not ideal on HM.
While Lacy has put together a great update to the player, I found his implementation of the shuffle/repeat/visit site buttons confusing. I also had to add the buying features as that is a critical part of what the Hype Machine is about.

just discovered this site and am loving it – thanks!
however, I noticed that a majority of the songs get played way too fast when listened through the Flash interface, most likely due to the encoding of the mp3s you’re linking to. So this gives the “Alvin and the Chipmonks” effect. Any way of providing the option of listening to the source mp3 rather than being forced to use the Flash interface?

The chipmunk effect, as you’ve correctly pointed out, is a limitation of Flash when it encounters files with a certain encoding/frequency rate.
A few things that you can do:
– Make sure you’ve got the latest flash player. In my experience, only a small subset of the songs were having this problem.
– Go to the original blog page, you may be able to hear the song correctly there.
– Try using another player like Winamp or Windows Media player (you can use the appropriate buttons on each Hype Machine page)
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the positive support, I am just informing you that your link to my files is incorrect. There is no “.html” at the end.
