We’re big fans of Sonos, which allows us to wirelessly stream music throughout our apartments. Sonos support has long been a requested feature, and now it’s here! Here’s how to set it up:
In your Controller, go to Preferences > Services > Sonos Labs > The Hype Machine. Currently, you can play the Latest, Popular, and your Favorites page. More will be added in later versions, but we just wanted you to be able to play around with this sooner.
And if you’re lucky enough to have multiple Sonos systems in your life (we use one in our office as well), Arkadiy wrote a script to easily switch between them. Let us know what you think!
Hype Machine is thrilled to announce we’re headed into the woods of Dover, Delaware for Firefly Music Festival, June 21st to 23rd. If you plan on doing the same, be sure to stop by the Toyota and SpinMedia Soundwave Tent (view map) for Hype Machine Handpicked, between 3PM and 5PM each day. Inside you’ll find DJ sets from a few of our favorite bloggers and artists. Here’s the schedule:
PS. This is the first event of its kind in our Handpicked series. Look for us later this summer at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Outside Lands in San Francisco.

We’ve launched a beautiful new way to experience our featured album premieres. After looking around, we realized there wasn’t anything that properly balanced a clean and simple presentation with the album’s aesthetic. We set out to create an immersive page that isn’t distracting or overloaded with options. A page that won’t slow down your computer.
Drawing inspiration from some of our favorite music apps like Muxtape and This is My Jam, here’s what we came up with:
Better yet, check out the real thing, and enjoy Natasha Kmeto’s Crisis while you’re at it.
Since making them a function of our site in 2010, we’ve premiered over 100 albums. The last nine have lived in this improved platform, which quietly went live last April with Olafur Arnalds’ For Now I Am Winter. In short time these have amounted to quite the spectrum of sound and color (I’m especially partial to the pastels of Andy Cato’s Times & Places).
It also works on your phone in a browser or our iOS app, so don’t be afraid to open it up!
What do you think?
Update July 22, 2013: We’ve rebuilt the embeddable players for these premieres too, making them simple and elegant. Here’s one from the Young Hunting album below:
Hype Machine indexes hundreds of music sites and collects their latest posts for easy streaming and discovery. We're here to help you find the best new music first.
